The frame sets the look; the glass decides how a room feels to live in. Here are the options we offer across our systems, and when each one is worth it.
Acoustic glass
For busy roads, flight paths or city flats, we offer acoustic glazing up to 51 dB. Ask for it at quote stage, as it changes the build-up of the glazed unit.
Solar control glass
Solar control glass reduces the heat gained through large south- or west-facing panes, so a glazed room is less likely to overheat in summer.
Integral blinds
Venetian, pleated and roller blinds can be sealed between the panes, where they are protected from dust and knocks. They can be operated by cord, knob or magnetic slider, or motorised, including app control. Lamella sizes are typically 20, 22, 27, 29 or 32 mm, depending on the unit. Blinds are treated as decorative, like Georgian bars, so they aren't part of U-value testing. Depending on their position, they can still cut solar gain or heat loss.
Privacy: mirror glass, blinds or PrivaLite
- Mirror glass is reflective in daylight but gives less privacy at night, when the lights are on inside.
- Venetian blinds let you adjust privacy through the day.
- PrivaLite is switchable glass that changes between clear and frosted at the press of a remote.
On our PI30 internal steel doors, tempered glass also comes in clear, reeded or frosted finishes, which is often all an internal door needs.
Fire-rated glass is different
Our fire doors use fire-rated glass that is part of the tested door, so check with us before changing it. Obscure satin glass is available on our published-price fire doors, priced per square metre. See our fire doors.
