On a period house, the windows carry much of the character. We make two timber systems: one that follows the traditional sash window closely, and one for slim timber windows and doors elsewhere.
WS146: the traditional sash
WS146 is a timber sliding sash window with horns and cord-and-weight operation, the way a sash has worked for centuries. It is made for period homes and listed buildings, where a modern mechanism or a heavy frame would look wrong. It is double or triple glazed with tempered glass and has Secured by Design (SBD) fasteners.
WD: slim timber windows and doors
WD covers external timber windows and doors with a slim, traditional look: windows, single doors and double doors. It is double or triple glazed with tempered glass, with SBD locking.
The finish
Both systems are finished in a microporous, water-based paint. Microporous means the paint lets moisture in the timber escape rather than trapping it under the surface, which helps the finish last.
Listed buildings
If your building is listed or in a conservation area, check what your local authority will accept before you order. Glazing, glazing bars and the profile of the frame are often looked at closely. We are happy to help with drawings and details for the application. Ask about a listed building.
